Reminiscents by Originary Arts at Lush
What stories do scents tell? How can connecting creatively with our sense of smell allow us to remember? Originary Arts presents a mixed media exhibition in the window of Lush with artwork and stories. Reminiscents is a new project, supported by Third Thursdays, exploring the power of smell to help evoke and express memories.
Originary Arts invited participants of different ages from across Brighton and Hove’s community to create their own unique ‘smell maps’ of the city. Curator and artist Nikki Shaill has been collecting people’s scented memories through workshops in libraries. As part of the window display, artwork by students from Greater Brighton Metropolitan College alongside window art by Nikki Shaill. Plus audio memories and collected stories from local community members including The Network of International Women for Brighton and Hove.
Lush will also stay open late to allow you to come and sample the smells that inspired some of the artwork.
Originary Arts curate playful and participatory arts and creativity for curious people. Originary create multi-sensory arts events in collaboration with communities of all ages, shapes and sizes. From poetry to printmaking, paper cutting to puppetry, play to performances at festivals, museums, galleries and more.
Thanks to Lush for supporting Third Thursdays and being part of the programme.
